چکیده

Iterative reconstruction algorithms produce accurate images without streak artifacts as in ®ltered backprojection. They allow improved incorporation of important corrections for image degrading effects, such as attenuation, scatter and depth-dependent resolution. Only some corrections, which are important for accurate reconstruction in positron emission tomography and single photon emission computed tomography, can be applied to the data before ®ltered backprojection. The main limitation for introducing iterative algorithms in nuclear medicine has been computation time, which is much longer for iterative techniques than for ®ltered backprojection. Modern algorithms make use of acceleration techniques to speed up the reconstruction. These acceleration techniques and the development in computer processors have introduced iterative reconstruction in daily nuclear medicine routine. We give an overview of the most important iterative techniques and discuss the different corrections that can be incorporated to improve the image quality. q 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. Three-dimensional (3D) computer reconstruction is an ideal tool for evaluating the centralized pathology of mammalian spinal cord injury (SCI) where multiple anatomical features are embedded within each other. Here, we evaluate three different reconstruction algorithms to three-dimensionally visualize SCIs. We also show for the first time, that determination of the volume and surface area of pa...

A high resolution ultrasound imaging technique, ultrasound backscatter microscopy (UBM), has previously been shown to be useful for in utero imaging of mouse embryos, and for direct manipulation of mouse embryos through UBM-guided injections. UBM images from mouse embryos staged between 8.5 and 10.5 days of gestation are presented to demonstrate the range of anatomical structures which can be s...
